G is for Gluttony
We always begin with fried green tomatoes, dipped in a packaged and plastic tasting ranch dressing. Accompanying this dish are corn fritters, little balls of dough that disguise their identity as doughnuts with little yellow bits of vegetable. We never say no to the sweet honey butter and powdered sugar they put on top. Anything less would be inauthentic.
This personal story of an evening of gastronomical indulgence allows for an examination of America’s eating habits. All images were taken at the Minnesota State Fair in the summer of 2006.
